While Beijing’s Panjiayuan Market is fairly new, the arts and crafts to be found there are stretch from modern paintings to relics of antiquity. Although most items do not carry the age and authenticity they appear to, it’s a wonderful place to find less cheesy souvenirs and decorations.

The Pānjiāyuán Market is including many accountings of the top sights in Beijing, including Lonely Planet (one of their 3 top picks) and the TIME online. Lonely planet observes that the market has roughly 9,000 vendors and sees 50,000 visitors a day. I was one of them for one day.

It is a lively market and the constant flow of people made it easy to shoot anything and everything, with very few exceptions. This selection includes a small sampling of the arts and crafts on offer, and the people in and around the market.
